VJ Day 80 – Remembering the Forgotten Veterans
Introduction
This year marks the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, the moment that ended the Second World War. Yet for many veterans who served in Asia and the Pacific, their sacrifices have often been overshadowed by events in Europe.
The Overlooked Legacy
Veterans of the Far East endured brutal conditions — from relentless combat to the trauma of captivity. Many came home to little recognition and inadequate support. Today, their numbers are dwindling, but their legacy lives on.
Why It Resonates Today
Just as those veterans were once forgotten, so too are many who live with service-related hearing loss. Pre-1987 veterans remain barred from claiming because of Crown Immunity, leaving thousands without justice. VJ Day reminds us that remembrance must be more than words. It must include action.
Justice4Heroes’ Role
By connecting veterans with specialist solicitors and fighting to change the law, Justice4Heroes ensures that today’s generation is not overlooked in the same way. Our petition — now with almost 18,000 signatures — is proof that the public stands behind fairness.
