Spotlight on Reserves Day 25th June – Celebrating Unsung Heroes
Armed Forces Day may be the main event, but in the lead-up to it, there’s a moment dedicated to one of the most vital — and often under-recognised — groups in the military community: the Reservists.
Reserves Day 2025 takes place on Wednesday 25 June, just three days before the national Armed Forces Day. It’s an important reminder that many people serving in the military do so part-time, balancing everyday careers and family life with the demands of military training and readiness.
These individuals are known as Reservists, and their contribution is as real and necessary as that of any full-time soldier, sailor, or airman.
Who Are Reservists?
Reservists are members of the Army Reserve, Royal Naval Reserve, Royal Marines Reserve, and Royal Auxiliary Air Force. They commit to regular training and can be called upon to support full-time operations — both in the UK and abroad.
They’ve been deployed alongside regular forces in major operations such as Iraq, Afghanistan, and more recently, COVID-19 response and disaster relief efforts.
Their employers, families, and communities often play a role in supporting their service — making Reserves Day a celebration not just of the individuals, but of the network that makes their commitment possible.
Why Reserves Day Matters
Reservists often serve quietly, without fanfare. They may not wear their uniforms to work, and their military contributions may go unnoticed. Reserves Day is our opportunity to shine a light on their commitment and say thank you.
It also raises awareness about the value of Reservists in today’s Armed Forces. As the modern military continues to evolve, Reservists play a crucial role in strengthening national resilience — bringing unique civilian skills into military operations and vice versa.
How to Get Involved
1. Say thank you
If you know someone who serves as a Reservist, take a moment to recognise their contribution. A simple message can mean the world.
2. Post your support on social media
Use the hashtag #SaluteOurForces and tag any friends or colleagues who serve. You can even take part in the official salute campaign by uploading a photo or video.
3. Organise a workplace or community shout-out
Encourage your employer, school, or community group to give a public thank you to Reservists. Many businesses take this opportunity to recognise their staff who serve.
4. Learn more

Every Role Matters
Just because someone wears the uniform part-time doesn’t make their service any less important. On Reserves Day 2025, let’s make sure those quiet contributions don’t go unrecognised.
Because whether they’re in the field, at their desk, or doing both — they serve. And they deserve our thanks.
