Pension Problems & Hearing Loss: You're Not Alone – And You're Not to Blame
For many veterans, life after service brings a new set of challenges. Some are visible, others far less so – but just as important. Two of the most common issues we support at Justice4Heroes are military pension mis-selling and hearing loss caused by service (NIHL).
These aren’t small issues. They affect your financial security, your wellbeing, and your quality of life. And the truth is, you didn’t cause either of them. You followed advice. You served your country. Now, you deserve support.
Pension Mis-Selling: When Trusted Advice Went Wrong
You may have been advised – or even encouraged – to transfer your Armed Forces pension into a private scheme. At the time, it may have sounded like the right move. The adviser might have seemed trustworthy. You might have been promised higher returns, more flexibility, or more control over your money.
But in many cases, that advice was flawed.
Thousands of veterans across the UK were given poor financial advice without being properly informed of the risks. What looked like a smart move turned out to be a costly one – with some losing tens or even hundreds of thousands in future retirement value. And many are only finding out years down the line, when it's too late to undo the damage.
If your pension was transferred out of the Armed Forces scheme and into a private plan, especially around the early 2000s to late 2010s, there's a chance it was mis-sold. And that means you could have a valid claim for compensation – even if the firm that advised you has since closed.
Military Hearing Loss: The Injury You Were Told to Ignore
During service, you were likely exposed to loud machinery, aircraft, weapons training, or active combat – often with little to no hearing protection. But like many veterans, you probably got used to the noise. You might have shrugged off the ringing in your ears or just “turned the telly up a bit” when it started getting harder to hear.
This kind of gradual hearing damage is known as Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL). And it's a recognised injury with long-term impacts on your mental health, your relationships, and your everyday life.
What’s more, it can often take years before you even realise how much you're hearing has been affected – and by then, it’s easy to assume nothing can be done. But that’s not the case.
If your hearing loss or tinnitus can be linked to your military service, and especially if you weren't given proper protection or training, you may be entitled to claim compensation. And it doesn’t affect your military pension or existing benefits.
You Served. You Deserve Justice.
We understand that talking about money or hearing loss isn’t easy. There’s often guilt, doubt, or the belief that “others had it worse.” But these claims aren’t about jumping the queue or trying your luck – they’re about doing right by yourself, after years of doing right by everyone else.
At Justice4Heroes, we work closely with trusted legal partners who understand both the military mindset and the complexity of these claims. Our role is simple: to listen, support, and guide you through your options in a way that’s clear, respectful, and pressure-free.
We’ll never give you the hard sell. We’ll give you the truth, and we’ll stand by you if you decide to take that next step.
No Jargon. No Pressure. Just Support.
Whether it’s a pension that was wrongly handled, or hearing loss that’s been quietly affecting your life for years, you don’t have to handle it alone. These issues matter. And so do you.
